Pilates
Pilates was originally developed nearly 100 years ago by Joseph Pilates as a way for injured service men to rehabilitate from their injuries. Teaching methods have moved on significantly but the same ethos of slow controlled movements in time with your breathing, using perfect posture and body awareness still apply today.
Pilates is an excellent choice for those who are new to exercise, have recently been ill or injured or those looking for a gentler way of exercising. Pilates focuses on improving the Strength and Endurance of the deep abdominal, back and pelvic muscles. It is an excellent way of mobilising and strengthening an injured or stiff back and improving general posture.
Pilates is now becoming more popular in the sporting world with many athletes reaping the rewards of this type of training as a stronger Core leads to more efficient movement and lower incidence of injury. Although it is a great exercise method for beginners it can also made to be very challenging even for the fittest of people.
